Congrats on the home, the best time to buy is when you need them! But the best time to buy for the best deals is actually right now! Black Friday and July 4th are the best sales of the year for appliances. This is when the manufacturer lowers the cost to the retailers for a promotional period. On these holidays usually a week before till a few weeks after. Don’t miss out, especially now since many items are heavily backordered. If you can, buy as many at once because the stores will do package deals, and there are some great package rebates as well. Good luck!
There is, the issue is the water in a front loader never pumps out fully so stagnant water over time creates bacteria that will give off a foul odor. The door gasket never drains fully as well. Now I have an Electrolux front loader. It smells perfect because once a week, I wipe the gasket with a Clorox wipe thoroughly and twice a month run affresh cleaning tabs. If I am going away, I may leave the washer door open as well in order to keep moisture from getting trapped. It is all about proper use and care. I will tell you the new GE ultra-fresh units have antimicrobial gaskets from Microban, and use a smart system of fan assistance, with an opening in the door to dry the tub out. It works fantastic!
If I only had a crystal ball! appliances just don’t last like they use to. Here is my guestimate based on selling all these years and what i’m seeing in the market.
Core appliances in years. (average based on replacement business)
Refrigerators 7-10 years
dishwashers 8-10
Ranges 10-15
Microwaves 7-10
Washers 6-9
Dryers 7-12
Now if you bump the budget to maybe a brand like a Sub-Zero etc those tend to add 5-8 years onto the life span.
Here is a chart I found that is close to being accurate.
When talking electric ranges they will have a smooth glass top so no griddle will come on the top. What you want to look for is a bridgeable burner that will allow a griddle when placed on the cooking surface to heat evenly. Many are made like this but most in a 36″ will be induction as well. As you can see from this Bertazzoni 36″ there is a burner shaped like a griddle for that reason.
I would need a little more info, but I will try to help for now. First, check the breaker to make sure it didn’t pop. Then check the power to the unit to make sure it is getting 110 volts at the terminal. If all power is good, look at the simple things like the “child lock” isn’t on. In some models, if the door latch is broken won’t allow the unit to pick a cycle, so make sure the latch is sitting properly. These are the basic things the check first before calling in a repair place that can assess if a fuse or the panel has blown.
If the mold or mildew has already taken place, the best thing is to run a few cycles of bleach with no clothes in it. I would then run Affresh tablets at least twice a month. The door gasket needs a thorough cleansing front and black with some Clorox wipes. Regular maintenance is to clean the gasket once a week and run cleansing tablets regularly The issue is if the mold has taken place, it is hard to get rid of and will take some time.
If it is a dispenser-type model, there is a good chance the flap is not closing all the way. Causing ice left in the chute when defrosting to drop out. I would manually defrost the ice chute and check for anything that is preventing the flap from closing. Sometimes ice build will not allow it to sit closed, and cubes can drop at random times.
