There is, the issue is the water in a front loader never pumps out fully so stagnant water over time creates bacteria that will give off a foul odor. The door gasket never drains fully as well. Now I have an Electrolux front loader. It smells perfect because once a week, I wipe the gasket with a Clorox wipe thoroughly and twice a month run affresh cleaning tabs. If I am going away, I may leave the washer door open as well in order to keep moisture from getting trapped. It is all about proper use and care. I will tell you the new GE ultra-fresh units have antimicrobial gaskets from Microban, and use a smart system of fan assistance, with an opening in the door to dry the tub out. It works fantastic!
