If it is a dispenser-type model, there is a good chance the flap is not closing all the way. Causing ice left in the chute when defrosting to drop out. I would manually defrost the ice chute and check for anything that is preventing the flap from closing. Sometimes ice build will not allow it to sit closed, and cubes can drop at random times.
