For small, intermittent cleanings, you can put a pot of water on the bottom shelf. Heat the oven to like 400 degrees and let it steam clean the interior. Then wipe it out afterward. For more stubborn stains, use products like easy off. It is formulated for non-self-cleaning and will work as a degreaser and lift the grease off the interior. Always wipe the oven out with a damp sponge before either method to remove crumbs and such.
The front loader will have an excellent washing action and hold a king-size comforter with no issue. I have personally used a front loader for my king bedding for years with no issues. Speed Queen is much better known for their top load agitator models as they are simple with no-frill features but built like a tank. The issue is, you don’t hear about them a lot is because their distribution method is unlike other brands. They keep it tight to smaller, local-type stores vs. big box stores, as they want the story told of why to buy it vs. a mass merchant selling it to the wrong consumer. It’s an excellent brand, and I highly recommend it. Front or top loader speed queen laundry is some of the best out there!
So do you mean can you mix brand to brand? Or mix colors all together? I never have an issue with the stove being a different color as it is a focal point. Often, we do white, black, or blue, etc., on a stove with the rest of the appliances in stainless steel. If you mean brand-to-brand mixing, it’s ok, as long as they are not directly next to each other. Microwave and stove should match if the microwave is over the stove. No issue doing different brands. But just lookout as some may be fingerprint-free and others not, so those can go from dull to shiny finishes.
Tricky as it really is more category-based, so here is a rundown.
Refrigerators (current model with new compressors) 7-10 years
Ranges 8-12
Dishwashers 6-10
Microwaves 10 plus
Washer/Dryer 7-10
Now, this is the average of what they should last. Some will say I am nuts as theirs have lasted less. But again, it’s the average that counts. They had a compressor issue for years. That put them at 3-5 years, but the new ones have been working with no problems. LG is best in cooking like ranges and micros. The dishwashers don’t last that long, and the fridge will depend on a top freezer, or single door bottom will last a lot longer than a French door with all the fancy features. The more on the unit, the less it will last.
So front loaders have advanced a lot in recent years. Brands like GE now have the ultra-fresh vent inside and the micro ban material that helps eliminate bacteria. Many other brands added a fan and a clean cycle as well. The trick is always to maintain it by running a cleaning cycle once a week and wiping the gasket dry. A top loader will not have the issue as there is no door gasket to hold moisture, and it drains the tub 100%. If you want to go top load, look at LG 7300 or above units. They make a great top loader. No agitator will give you more room as well. However, I like the agitator action it moves the clothes better to get cleaner. Check out this new machine from LG. It is a top load super capacity 4.8 with an agitator. Best of both worlds! -Al
That is why I don’t like big box stores. They are just so careless with the products and seem to not care if they inconvenience you. Here is the dealer locator from Bosch. Put in your zip code and look for a smaller-sized dealer. It is a great fridge, and really sorry to hear they can’t seem to get it right. Deliver them all the time with no issues, just carelessly on their part.
So if you are still talking about standard appliance sizes. Even in a small kitchen, I recommend
30″ stove
30″ over the stove micro/hood combo
24″ dishwasher
30″ top freezer (bottom if preferred)
Utilizing the basic working triangle with the dishwasher next to the sink
