It really depends on the space requirement. So let’s say you’re talking about a counter-depth fridge. They are designed to take up a smaller footprint in the kitchen than the Whirlpool french door model#WRF954CIHZ use just a 36 wide 72 tall opening and is 24 cubic feet. One of the largest counter depths on the market.
So for a new dishwasher install best placement is adjacent to a sink to make installation easier. You will need:
A 24″ opening in the cabinet countertop height. (they do make a few 18″ wide units)
Electrical outlet 110-volt dedicated circuit in the adjacent cabinet is best
3/8 waterline copper or steel braided “T’eed of your hot water line
Connection on the sink drain trap for dirty water discharge.
These are your basic requirements for installation. You should use a qualified plumber when doing a new install to ensure proper draining and filling etc.
Dishwasher brands to give you years of trouble-free service would be KitchenAid, Maytag, and Bosch.
The hardest part of all is getting the kids to load it! My kids think dishes grow legs and walk from the sink to the dishwasher.
I’m not a huge fan of the brand in select categories. They make a great range, and that’s about it. Their refrigerators notoriously ice up. Their dishwashers don’t last more than 3-5 years. It’s just not a brand I could recommend at the moment until they get their act together. They let quality go-to pump out production. If you follow my Facebook group, it is the biggest complaint about the brand for service. If you like that type of look then I would push you more towards LG.
They are good, but you need to make sure it’s the new linear compressor with the newer Freon as the older models had a design flaw going back 3-7 years where they would crap out so fast. This is not the case with the newer design. Try to stick with simple features. The simpler, the better. I do like them now vs. in the past when it was a servicing headache.
Downdrafts are always good when no other option is present. Very few are made. They will not work as well since heat and smoke will rise. The only two still made are the KitchenAid and the JennAir. Both are made by Whirlpool. I would only suggest using one if on an island and no other way to vent.
The fact that you asked tells me you are on the right track, as so many people don’t maintain. I would pick one appliance a month to clean with a washer twice a month. The manual will give you monthly cleaning tips as well.
Dishwasher and washer: run affresh cleaning tabs in it. Washers also wipe the gasket of a front loader.
Range: clean it out once a month to avoid long self-cleaning cycles.
