So if you are talking freestanding counter depth, the Bosch 800 series with the dual compressor setup is the best out there today. The Bosch 800 is reliable, has plenty of space, and has a great cooling system! If you are talking overall the best refrigerator out there, I can only say Sub-Zero. I feel they are committed to quality and always have been. They last the longest out of any refrigerator on the market.

For instance, during these tough pandemic backorders, everyone is shocked that they are 6-9 months to get a new Sub Zero. The reason for this is that I have found out is the owner refuses to source the cheaper, inferior, yet in-stock parts. They would rather lose sales than lower the quality. So if you want the best, you wait. As painful as it is to some, I give them total credit for keeping quality their main priority!

It can be several things. The first thing to do is remove the bottom filter inside the unit and check it for blockage. Wash it out well. After that, check the drain line has no objects in it and make sure it is in a hi loop by the sink. This means the hose is higher than the drain, so dirty stale water doesn’t backflow into the unit. Many times the drain falls too low, and people don’t realize it. The last thing is a faulty drain pump, that if broken, will need service to replace.

That is a fairly easy part to replace. I did mine years ago, and I think it cost me $140 for the part and took me 25 minutes to swap it. Was it a Whirlpool brand and all done from the front? Some brands do require the removal of the front panel.

Propane is the most efficient, then natural gas and electric after that. Technically it all depends on where you live, as utility costs differ around the country. But I have found consumers like to use gas when possible on appliances for efficiency. As gas will most likely always be cheaper to run. -Al

It’s a tough question, but since you said affordable, that helps. If you are talking about a dorm or office-style fridge, not a built-in beverage center. I like the GE unit the best. Many off brands today are made to low specifications, and for me, GE has held up well.

The biggest issue or complaint is the odor they can produce. Unlike a top loader, front loaders will leave excess water in the unit and moisture around the gasket. If left unmaintained, it will cause bacteria and mildew that will smell. Some of the newer machines now have cleaning cycles and ant microbial parts, so they don’t attract mildew, etc. To me, a front loader is the best in washing action and space-saving. I have had one for over 15 years and would never go back to a top loader. As long as you maintain it properly, it is a great machine. You have options like stacking them, going side by side for a counter over the top of pedestals to raise em up. Some of the best are the LG 4200 and above series and the GE Ultra-Fresh. -Al

So if you are talking about the pop to open door. It works ok. I would prefer you go to the 800 series with Crystal Dry as that works fantastic. I use a version of it in my own home. The best drying system seems to be in the KitchenAid 604 and up with the heating element pro dry feature. That, to me, is the best! If you want a Bosch, I get it. But the 800 series’ drying is much better than the 300 or 500.
