Technically it is code in many towns, and I would say yes. Gas has harmful byproducts that should be vented out of the home.

The need for a range hood or vent in your kitchen isn’t a strict requirement, but it’s highly advisable for several reasons:

Air Quality: Range hoods or vents help improve air quality in your kitchen by removing smoke, steam, and cooking odors. This not only enhances comfort but also reduces the risk of indoor air pollution.
Safety: They play a crucial role in fire prevention by removing airborne grease particles, minimizing the chances of a kitchen fire.
Cleanliness: Range hoods help in keeping your kitchen cleaner by preventing grease and food particles from settling on surfaces, making post-cooking cleanup more manageable.
Comfort: They help maintain a cooler and more comfortable cooking environment by removing excess heat and moisture.
