How long can a standard dishwasher be left unused before it clunks out?

      I have recently been “handed down” an apartment unit that my grandma has been living in and the dishwasher hasnt been used in about 15 years. It is in need of a deep cleaning and I’m scared to turn it on, is there anything i should expect?

      The problem is the seals. If not used for a while may dry out and crack. This can lead to leaks from underneath the unit. At 15 years old, I am not sure if wise to reinstall and use it as it is past its age of repair and or parts. You could hook up the dishwasher outside the cabinet and run a cycle as you watch it to confirm the seals did not dry rot from lack of use.
