Counter-depth is generally the term for a fridge where the body sits in standard 24″ deep cabinetry. The idea here is the fridge doesn’t stick out, giving you a more flush or built-in look. If you are talking stainless steel, the Bosch 800 series is the top pick. The best unit overall dual compressors and internal water make this a super reliable counter depth fridge prob the best on the market. If you are talking about one that takes panels, called panel ready, look at the Fisher Paykel brand. They make a reasonable price panel-ready unit that has flush style hinges, so a really sleek unit.
So true, but parts are ridiculously overpriced. I would say check on amazon as many companies are making similar components for less and selling on there right now. The manufacturer’s page is the most expensive. Then try “Marcone” they offer parts at less cost than a brand would but a door bin will average $60-$100 because they know they have you as only a few companies make it.
The best is the GE Cafe induction, model #CHS950P2MS1. Induction top, double oven, self-clean, air fry, plus wifi! It’s loaded with features and a great product.
Trending now or on the upswing is:
GE Profile- one of the best with the outside water
Ge Cafe- great looking pro version of the profile line up but quality
Bosch- 800 series (no outside dispenser) features a dual compressor on of the best
LG- has overcome an old compressor issue to make some great value units with a ton of unique features
Samsung- a lot of icemaker issues, so most people regret buying one
Higher-end
Sub Zero- always a top pick.
Thermador- making some great built-in fridges these days
It’s tricky as each house is different. Generally, a water line is tapped from under a sink where you will look for a 1/4 line to a shut-off valve, but it can also be installed in a crawl space or a basement. When I ran into this in the past, we usually just shut off the main, then open a faucet to bleed the lines, and release the pressure then hook up the fridge and turn it back on. This is a temp solution while you hunt for the valve. After that, it’s hard for me to say where it is in your home as in every house, it can be in a unique spot. The really weird old homeowner didn’t have the answer for you. But if by a sink, check that spot first, then basement next if you have one.
