So the smallest over-the-range microwave is the slimline ones from Whirlpool and KitchenAid. These are fairly new models made when a consumer is replacing a hood. It hangs much higher and gives more clearance above the stove.
Congrats on the house! An exciting day, so microwaves, vents, and hoods can vent 3 ways. Top vent outside, back vent outside, or recirculating in your face. If you are on an outside wall, the microwave should just have the motor spun to face the rear, then a hole needs to be cut outside and vented. It is very doable. 99% of all micros can do this. GE made a few models that start with JNM the “N” meant non vented. So check the model tag if you happen to have a GE. Great idea to vent it now as you will be there for many years. So the key here is if on the outside wall, because if not, then some tricky venting may be involved. A Handyman, contractor, etc., can do the job with ease.
It is not hard. But there is the easy way and the pro way. They make saddle valves that self pierce the waterline as a kit with copper tubing. It is easy to do. Now, while the kit is available from any home center and, rather easy to install. I don’t always trust the reliability of those values. I always prefer hiring a plumber who can tap in a real valve in the line with a proper shut-off in the event of an emergency.
Many people love the cleaning action of the Speed Queen top-loaders as it is an old-fashioned machine using an agitator and a heavy-duty motor and transmission. It does work well but is a little rougher on the clothes. A front-load, horizontal axis type machine will still be the best there is, in my opinion. As the clothes are constantly being pushed through the water and the tumbling action insures all clothes get water pushed through them for the best clean. A front loader, particularly the GE Ultra-Fresh and LG 4000 series. Those will be the best as of now.
The best washers seem to be the front-loading or horizontal axis type machines. They hold a ton of laundry, are gentle on the clothes, and will give the best washing action to clean better. I really like the new GE ultra-fresh units in this category.
It really depends on the category. If you want a good and reliable 30″ stove. GE Profile and Cafe make, in my opinion, the best quality. If you want to bump it up to a more professional style range. I like the Wolf dual fuel models as they are built like a tank. Those would be my 2 suggestions.
