We are planning on getting a new microwave above the stove with an exhaust fan to replace the old.  Ours is not vented to the outdoors so we were wondering if it’s “good enough” to continue to use an unvented fan (what are the downsides) or if it would be worth the cost of creating a path for outside venting that’s not currently there considering our “normal” stove usage for a small family.

I would keep it as is although always beneficial to vent I think the cost to do this extra work wont be worth it for the limited use. All micros can vent indoors with the use of a ventless filter kit generally supplied in the unit.
