Safe to stand near a microwave when in use?

      I often stand near a microwave when it is in use.  Is that safe?  I am worried about the microwave exposure.

      It is safe as microwaves are designed to keep the radiation in. But I wouldn’t be pressing my face up to it while cooking. Old technology has proven to be safe.
