I’m considering recessing the back of my fridge into the wall to make it appear to be counter-depth without the extra expense or loss of storage space associated with counter-depth refrigerators……Do you have any pointers about how to do this?

This is a great idea and is done quite often. This way, you keep the capacity of a full depth. But don’t lose the look of the counter depth. I can say customers of mine who have done this in the past, it was based on what is behind the wall. If nothing important like a bedroom closet it’s easy if a bathroom etc. Then there may be a water line or drain to watch for, they recess the wall and build it back a few inches, some turn the studs sideways to save a few inches, I would also consider putting the electric and waterline in a recessed area to save space as well.
